Ready for the World honors those who enhance intercultural and international awareness of students and the campus community.
Amadou Sall
Countless students have said that Amadou Sall, a senior lecturer in Africana studies, has provided them with international and intercultural opportunities that have been unforgettable and life-changing contributions to their personal growth. He leads study abroad trips to various countries in Africa, making sure each trip includes a service–learning component. In Ghana, students worked with local elementary and high schools, painting floors, donating school supplies, and helping to build a library and computer lab. In South Africa, students worked with local residents to build vegetable gardens for orphanages and preschools. Here in Knoxville, his students tutor youngsters at Knoxville’s Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy. A colleague wrote that Sall is determined “to be sure that students are challenged to become globally engaged and more culturally competent, whether it be at home or abroad.”
