Health Innovation Technology and Simulation Lab

The Health Innovation Technology and Simulation Lab, also known as the HITS Lab, is shaping the future of health care through its unique immersive environment and research and development. A partnership between the College of Nursing and Tickle College of Engineering, the lab was founded eight years ago to advance the science of health innovation while improving health care and professional training. The HITS research team includes engineers, nurses, social workers, educators, and graphic designers specializing in health care, informatics, instructional technology, simulation, mobile health, and data science. HITS Lab research has garnered more than $3 million in funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Energy, and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. The research team has six creation disclosures with the UT Research Foundation, including one for an app that gives voice to patients who cannot speak.
