Stephanie Bohon
Stephanie Bohon, associate professor of sociology, uses both her head and her heart to solve real-world problems. She’s currently working on issues of food insecurity and nutritional deficiency in Campbell County, Tennessee, in heart of rural Appalachia. Since arriving at UT in 2006, Bohon has been at the forefront of various good deeds on our campus and in our community. Her most recent endeavor, carried out with her husband, Tim Worman, is Grace Gardens, a grant-funded sustainable organic food-bank garden. Grace Gardens helps provide fresh fruit and vegetables for 58,000 bags of food distributed by a local agency each year. What’s more, the garden has provided opportunities for those on campus and in the community—including men living in a local halfway house after serving time in prison on drug charges—to feel good about helping others.
