Joseph Winberry
Joseph Winberry will soon be a PhD graduate of the College of Communication and Information. His dissertation explores how community organizing can combat information marginalization experienced by LGBT+ older adults in East Tennessee. Winberry’s work builds connections between LGBT+ people and resources on campus and those in the greater Knoxville community.
What does being a Volunteer mean to you? How has UT empowered you to make a difference in a way you might not have imagined elsewhere?
“Vol means all. Being a Volunteer means recognizing and celebrating the differences we bring to the table. Being a student at UTK has given me the support necessary for working on projects of great (but often overlooked) importance such as meeting the needs of LGBT+ older adults in East Tennessee. I am thankful for the opportunity to do this work and for the role of the university (and incredible people) in making it possible.”
