2020 Charles R. Burchett Extraordinary Contributions to Campus Life

The Charles R. Burchett Extraordinary Contributions to Campus Life Award is named for the World War II veteran, former Knox County Schools administrator, and UT dean of students to honor students and student organizations for extraordinary contributions to campus life.

UT Knoxville Chapter, NAACPThe mission of the UT Knoxville chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, is to inform students of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities while advancing the status of the Knoxville community and developing intelligent and proactive youth leadership. The chapter makes extraordinary contributions to UT and Knoxville through its programs, initiatives, and service opportunities, including the Black Issues Conference—now in its 15th year, with more than 350 participants—the Black History Month silent march, blood drives, community service, skate night, movie nights, and partnerships with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Love Kitchen.
