The Extraordinary Service to the University award honors faculty members, staff members, or friends for noteworthy service to the university.
Wayne Mulkey
Wayne Mulkey graduated from UT’s master’s program in rehabilitation counseling in 1970. After earning his PhD at Florida State University in 1980, he returned to UT as a faculty member. In time, he became director of the Regional Rehabilitation Continuing Education program and head of the former Department of Rehabilitation, Deafness, and Human Services. In 2003, he received the National Rehabilitation Association’s Yvonne Johnson National Leadership Award, and in 2010, he was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year by the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling. Mulkey retired in 2008 after 28 years of service to UT. Six years later, he returned to guide the Rehabilitation Counseling program through accreditation. “His dedication to the program in a time of need speaks to his continuing value and worth as a leader that can be called on when necessary,” a colleague said. Mulkey is now preparing to retire—again. His last day is May 31.
