The LGBT Student Leadership is given by the Commission for LGBT People to a student who demonstrates a commitment to advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues on campus.
Allison Heming
Allison Heming, who will complete her master’s degree in mathematics later this year, goes to great lengths to ensure that every member of the LGBT community feels welcomed and safe at UT. As an academic coach at the Student Success Center, she shows respect for students from all walks of life, and always highlights diversity and inclusion when training tutors. Heming has served on the Chancellor’s Commission for LGBT People for the past two years. She is an advocate for including preferred pronouns and preferred names in UT student records. Her research on preferred pronouns and names will help all students whose gender does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth. Heming stresses that the value of a person is not based upon gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
