Sam Swan
Sam Swan, professor of journalism and electronic media, is known throughout the College of Communication and Information as “the study abroad guy.” Swan promotes global education to hundreds of students every semester. He’s traveled to more than forty countries, including the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, and Cyprus, and has trained thousands of radio and television managers and journalists. When he’s not globetrotting, Swan shares his worldly experiences with students in introductory classes to make sure they know about the many opportunities they have to study abroad. The number of the college’s students who study abroad has doubled and several new study abroad programs have been created in the nine years since Swan began serving as the college’s director of internationalization and outreach.
