2014 LGBT Student Leadership Award

The LGBT Student Leadership is given by the Commission for LGBT People to a student who demonstrates a commitment to advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues on campus.

Michael PorterMichael Porter, a senior majoring in political science with a concentration in public administration, has been the Lambda Student Union president since May 2013. He has trained executive board members, led a branding initiative, and increased membership by 20 percent. He also serves as undergraduate representative and Lambda liaison to the Chancellor’s Commission for LGBT People. Porter has also been a UT ambassador since April 2012, during which time he worked to have the OUTreach Center included on the campus tour and to facilitate LGBT issue training for incoming ambassadors. He has been an orientation leader, orientation leader coordinator, and welcome leader. He presented a paper at the National Orientation Directors Association conference titled “How to Keep Your Institution from Becoming a Heartbreak Hotel for LGBT Students.”
