The LGBT Advocate Award recognizes a faculty member, staff member, or student who demonstrates a commitment to advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues on campus.
Joel Kramer works to ensure LGBT students feel welcome and at home at UT. As an assignment manager in the Department of University Housing, he works to provide comfortable and appropriate housing for all students. He also has contributed to a work group that is looking into the creation of a new housing policy to accommodate transgender students on campus. Kramer trains resident assistants on creating an LGBT-inclusive community in their residence halls and works with human resources to contribute to the Safe Zone training program at UT. He is the staff advisor for Lambda Student Union and has been a member of the Chancellor’s Commission for LGBT People since it began in 2006.
